Quititos - Personalized Knitted Dolls
These extraordinary lifelike dolls, called "Quititos," are made by Natalia Coronel.
Natalia, who lives with her family in northern Argentina, started knitting dolls for friends and when she found them becoming more and more lifelike, she decided to start doing real people. She produced series of dolls using themes such as "jugglers" and "Guarani girls." Many of these went as presents to grateful friends and the others were quickly snapped up from the Tucai art and turistic shop. Mexican artist Frida Khalo was the first real person she created, then Natalia reproduced her youngest son from a photo taken the year before - using the same wool she had used to make his wooly hat and jumper - and that's when the idea of recreating people from photos dawned. Orders quickly followed as people saw what she was doing, the idea being always to recreate a three-dimensional knitted version of the people in any photo received.
